Alright, so my 24th birthday was yesterday and I've decided to get these last 20 pounds off. I set out in November of 2005 to lose 80 pounds, so far I've lost 60. I started out at 240 with a goal of 160, I'm now at 180.
I started this blog back in June of 07 with the intention of going raw. I was getting WAAAAAAAAAY ahead of myself. I had only been vegetarian for about 1 1/2 years at that time (since 11-1-5) and I was trying to go raw?? LOL, that's funny in retrospect.
Anyway, if you go back and read you'll see that I tried to go 100% raw and failed miserably. Well, since then I've decided to go vegan and ease my way into 50% raw... and then take it slowly to high raw. I noted in this blog that I went vegan in February, but I didn't acutally go vegan until 3-1-8.
Okay, so the path to raw foodism usually goes like this: A person finds out reasons to not eat meat (they go vegetarian), then they find out reasons to not consume any animal product like milk and eggs (they go vegan) and then they find out reasons to not eat cooked food (they go raw)... and them some people even take it further and go fruitarian.
So, I was trying to skip veganism and just go from vegetarian to raw!!! HAHAHA... I was so ignorant back then! I totally set myself up for failure by doing that. So, right now I've been vegan for almost 7 months and I'm still VERY interested in being high raw someday. My plan is to take next year (09) to learn more about raw food and to experiment with sprouting and juicing and then go 50% raw on 1-1-10 (I'm a little OCD with dates, lol). I "might" attempt 50% raw in 09... I'm not sure about that - right now I'm going with the 1st plan.
Now, there's something I need to clarify. I didn't go veg for weight loss... there's MANY different reason to go veg. I did lose 20 lbs fast when I went vegan, though! When people hear the word "diet" they think of eating to lose weight. Well, everyone eats a diet - a diet is what you eat. Most Americans eat the SAD diet (Standard American Diet). Some people go veg for the health benefits (like me), some do it for the animals (compassion and / or animal rights), some do it for the environment (living green), the list goes on. Most people go veg for one main reason and the other reasons help out. I'm interested in raw food for the health benefits. I'm not going to go into the reasons or benefits to go raw, you can Google raw food diet and get hundreds of pages on it. I do expect to lose more weight with raw, though - as most people do.
I'm going to keep this blog updated for now on because I'm 24 and still (in my mind) 20 pounds overweight. I'm the only one who thinks I need to get to 160 and that's because I can feel it. I can feel it in my stomach, I feel fat. I want my body to be good to go by the time I'm 25. I want to be no more than 160 and lean by 2010.
Every post won't be this long, but I will keep my weight updated, I'll list what I ate and how many calories. I have started to count calories, again, as of today. I'm trying to stay between 1200 - 1600 calories a day (aiming for 1200). I didn't start yesterday because I fast every Tuesday. I've been water fasting, but the natural doctor I've been talking to says I should juice fast instead because it rebuilds at the cellular level. She even gave me a great recipe to help my skin. She's 90& raw and an inspiration! She's already given me tips on the raw food diet.
Dr. Fox (
Natural Rejuvenation) is a natural doctor I've been going to about my psoriasis. I've been doing a liver cleanse (which releases liver / gallstones!) to help, too. Anyway, she gave me a bio-communication test and is ordering a few natural products that is supposed to bring my body into balance. So, I'm looking forward to that!
So, today I weighed in (I weight myself in the morning) at 179.2.
I juice fasted till 12pm today. I didn't use fresh juice, I used Kagome: 560 cals
Lunch4 fresh figs: 100 cals
steamed veggies w/ soy sauce: about 130 cals
4 tortilla chips dipped in salsa (to satisfy a craving): about 120 cals
SnackSoy jerky: 80 cals
Snack (pre-dinner)
Fruit Bu: 60 cals
Dinner15 Bean Soup (slow cooked in crock pot): I didn't measure, but I'll estimate at about 300 cals
So, that makes a total of
1400 caloriesI burned 500 calories on my elliptical,
so thy makes a total of 900 calories for the day!I bought wheat berries today for my first sprouting experiment! Dr. Fox told me a great recipe for raw bread! I'm exited to see how it comes out.
Alright then! Wow, that was a long post! I don't know if anyone is even going to read this, but I've learned that it helps to write stuff down. I think it will help me in my raw journey to do this.
